Whew! Should I just forget trying to get upgrades and play the storylines?
I have not beaten any of the games, so don't have 'hard mode'.
7 months ago when I wanted a rune or weapon upgrade, I farmed to get what I needed in level 15-17 areas. I am not getting any good stuff there now, and dirt-poor drops and money (need sword and ax upgrades, superior vitae runes).
Should I just forget about farming and just play the games, or is there still hope in farming levels 15-17 for loot somewhere?

no. just no. there is absolutely nothing to be made from levels 15-17 creatures, and why you wouldnt have beaten the game in 7 months when it takes only a week (give or take a little) to beat it is just beyond me. beat the game. period.

I think that you should just play the game normally and don't grind for weapons and gold unless you really want to. I usually grind my characters when I finish the game with them just to perfect their stats. On some of my characters, I just used major or minor runes on their armor until I could afford something more expensive.
You're playing this game way too much like a normal MMORPG, where you have to grind and level up. You will do fine just using a minor sword mastery rune with a 13% vs. demons or w/e. If you have a nice skillbar, you should be fine!

LOL Bonelace!
I haven't played the game at all for the past 7 months, until I picked up Nightfall two weeks ago. Last year, I went through Prophecies up to 'Ring of Fire" ( I only play about 4-6 hours per week).
Last year, when I needed upgrades and runes, I could get them by farming the level 15-17 mobs.
I have tried to outfit my Nightfall toon that way, but no luck at all any more.
Bai - Good Advice - I will just play for fun and fame :-))

NF will give you more treasure locations, farming locations, HM and a green item for finishing it. That's just too much to throw away.

What's great about GW is that it allows you to prioritize (well, mkay, as far as an MMO can do that). Move through at a crisp pace, learn the basic mechanics of the game. Test PvP by hitting the RAs or joining a helpful guild. Then start to decide what you want to do for fun through trial and error. The last thing you should be doing in GW is worrying about gear: it's the skill game that makes the game what it is (I run through new campaigns with crap gear, just think about how to counter the mobs). And for farming, I never buy jack squat unless I test out whether I like/can do it, etc.
Learn how to develop simple tactics and use the diversity of skills to your advantage (think about what they are doing 'to' you and do it back 'at' them) and you will win Guild Wars. :P

... You want decent weapons and whatnot.... then check the greens of Cantha and Elona.... It'll be quicker than trying to find exactly the right mods and inscriptions, guaranteed.
But in any case, if you really want to farm then you'll need hard mode unlocked in all three campaigns and at least one dedicated farming character. I would recommend a monk for versitility.
If you can find a way to kit out a monk (and possibly heroes) enough to conquer all three campaigns.... you'll have all you need essentially to farm anything else you might want.
But seriously.... get on with the game. In just five days I managed to get my Canthan Elementalist from level 2 to Weh No Su... and then all the way to Bone Palace in Elona.... and that was inbetween helping out my newb guildies with other tasks... and then promptly stopping at Bone Palace because I wasn't doing it to complete Nightfall at all (I just wanted the pretty armour, which you can now see in my avatar on the left side)...
... Yeah. It isn't too tough. Just get collector armour and weapons if you're strapped for cash, make do with imperfect mods for a while until you've unlocked enough of the game to more easily get better ones.

Green weapons are getting cheaper all the time, if you've got enough cash and don't want to waste time looking for mods, buy those.
However, I suggest you try to finish one of the campaigns first.

Corrected.
With a few exceptions, buying greens is a lot less fun (and a lot more expensive) than just farming them.... and with herohench-flagging... it isn't too difficult for just about any character to come up with some sort of boss-solo-killing build.
